Kallista Energy has inaugurated the first battery electricity storage site connected to the public transmission grid in the Somme, at Saleux.
The afternoon kicked off with the traditional speeches and ribbon-cutting, after which guests were taken on a guided tour of the site to discover the main components of battery storage. It was a friendly, relaxed event, held under clear skies.
The site has a capacity of 120 MW / 240 MWh, equivalent to the energy needed to power around 20,000 homes for 24 hours, or to make 200 Paris–Amiens TER train journeys. Battery storage is set to play a key role in the evolution of our electricity system. It helps balance fluctuations in demand while making it easier to integrate a growing share of renewable energy, whose output is inherently variable.
In total, more than 500 people from around fifty companies will have worked on the construction of the Saleux site.
